Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Gymnasium of Arts
The mission of Šiauliai Saulius Sondeckis Gymnasium of Arts is to educate children and youth who are talented in music and fine art by delivering specialised education field programmes (primary, basic and accredited secondary education jointly with music or fine art education). It is one of 9 institutions of such type that operate under the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania.
Students, consistently learning comprehensive education subjects jointly with music or fine art education curriculum throughout forms 1–12, gain primary (forms 1–4), basic (forms 5–8, gymnasium forms 1–2) and secondary (gymnasium forms 3–4) education. The obtained maturity certificate opens a possibility to choose study programmes of various fields at any higher education institution in Lithuania or abroad.
Students of the Music Programme learn and develop their skills of playing a chosen music instrument and grand piano, singing or conducting, learn subjects on music theory, participate in activities of artistic groups.
Students of the Fine Art Programme learn and develop their graphic, colour and spatial thinking during lessons on fine art expression in forms 1‒7, and, later on, during lessons focusing on a specific branch of fine art (painting, graphics, sculpture, design). Starting from form 5, the curriculum is supplemented with drawing, composition, history of fine art and architecture, ceramics, watercolour; in form 9, planning design is added.
Highly qualified professional pedagogues work in the gymnasium; their activities and performance are seen and appreciated not only at the city or the national level, but at the international level, too.
